Frequently Asked Questions
Regarding Evensong Retreat Center
1. Are you able to accommodate
Group Retreats?
We are able to accommodate small
groups of adults who wish to use our facilities for a private
retreat. We can arrange sleeping space for 12 - 15 people with some double occupancy. All rooms have private entrances
and private bath. Meeting space is also available. We will be glad to discuss and arrange for your group's specific needs . Please
call us at 508-432-0027. More information is also available at our Retreats
for Groups Page.
2. Do you have Mass open to the
public?
Yes, the Liturgy of the Eucharist
is celebrated in the Ecumenical Catholic Tradition every Sunday (throughout the year) at 10:00
a.m. and during the week on Thursdays (from Oct 1st to April 30th) at 10:00 a.m.
There are Churches of various
traditions within short riding distances from Evensong, including
Congregational, Episcopal, Lutheran, Methodist, and Roman Catholic
Churches.
Roman Catholics can find Mass
offered in the Roman Catholic Tradition at Holy Trinity Roman
Catholic Church (less than a mile from Evensong Retreat Center)
where Mass is offered at 9:00 a.m. on Monday through Saturday and at a variety of times on weekends.
3. Are you affiliated with any
one Church?
Evensong by the Sea Retreat &
Spirituality Center is an Ecumenical facility. We operate according
to the Christian Spiritual Tradition, and we welcome people of
all faith traditions who wish to spend time in quiet reflection
with God. While the Center is not affiliated with any one Church
Rev. James David and Rev. Marie David are priests in good standing
in the Ecumenical Catholic Diocese of the Americas, Archbishop Peter J. Brennan, presiding bishop..
4. Are retreats really held in
silence?
Silence on Guided Weekend Retreats
is at the discretion of the Retreat Director, and group discussion
is often a part of these weekends. Private group retreats also
make their own decisions about silence.
On private individual retreats
and Five-day retreats silence is usually observed. The Gospels tell us
that Jesus frequently went away to a quiet place to pray. The
purpose of a retreat is similar - to withdraw from the busyness
of our everyday world, to be ourselves before God and allow God
to speak in our hearts and souls. Evensong by the Sea provides
a quiet setting respectful of the silence within which this might
happen. If there are two or more retreatants on site at the same time the decision for silence at meals is left to individuals, though we as everyone to be respectful of another's decision to dine in silence.
Spiritual Direction on private
and Five-day retreats is available for a small additional fee.
5. Are Telephones Available?
There are no phones available
in rooms. In an emergency, of course, a phone can be made available
to retreatants. If a retreatant wants regular access to a phone
it would be best to bring your cell phone along.
6. Can special diets be accommodated?
Evensong serves healthy, nutricious meals. If your diet requires special food you will need to bring your own supplies. A refrigerator is available in your room.
