The Wedding Ritual

Your wedding ceremony will be at the center of your special day.  It is important that your wedding ritual be what you want it to be.  This page explains the type of ceremony Evensong officiants use so that you might determine up front whether or not it is what you want.

Evensong officiants are Catholic priests in good standing with the Ecumenical Catholic Diocese of America, and use the Catholic ritual for weddings.  There is some flexibility in the way the ceremony unfolds and the officiant  will work together with you as a couple to tailor it specifically for your wedding.  You should understand, however, that by chosing this approach you are choosing a ritual that:

  • God and God’s Love as revealed in Jesus as its focal point
  • includes scripture readings (2 to 3 readings, which you will select from a variety of choices;  you will also select 1 to 2 readers to do the readings)
  • has a traditional vow formula and exchange of rings
  • may include a reading from a non-scripture source as well as the use of some type of unity symbol

The  style used in leading the ceremony is warm and inviting, and there is a brief homily during the ceremony that seeks to draw in the people that you have invited to your ceremony.  This day is about God’s Love and your love and that is what the priest will speak about.

There are many officiants available on the Cape from which you may choose as you plan your important day.  Some use civil ceremonies.  Others use a spiritual approach.  Some will work with you to handcraft the entire ceremony from scratch.  What we provide and what you pay for in contracting our services is a religious ceremony that unfolds as outlined above.

Either Rev. Jim or Rev. Marie would be happy to provide a complimentary thirty minute meeting so that you can get to know us, go over the ceremony in greater detail, and ask any questions you may have prior to contracting our services.  Or, if you prefer, email or call us at 508-432-0027.
