In 2006 Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod began work on an ambitious project - to build a complete neighborhood in Harwich which would provide affordable housing for local families, a serious need on the Cape. As the project solidified the decision was made to make one of the 13 houses in the neighborhood a "faith build." The various church communities in Harwich joined together to make that part of the project a reality. St. Mary of Magdala Church joined with the other churches of Harwich to sponsor one of the homes to be built. Over $50,000 was raised as well as $5,000 to help sponsor a home in a third world country. In addition to the money raised each church community provided volunteers to help with hands on building and helping to provide food for volunteer workers. As the project developed such a strong sense of community developed that the various sponsors of all 13 houses began working together to make the whole neighborhood a reality. Work began in 2008 and will come to a conclusion on the weekend of November 13, 2009 with the dedication of the houses on Gomes Way in East Harwich. St. Mary of Magdala Community is proud to have been a part of this wonderful project!
